On September 24, 2004, Mr. Brad Bailey was awarded the first Ben Fitzpatrick, Jr., Graduate Fellowship in Topology. Brad is completing his Ph. D. thesis research under the direction of Dr. Gary Gruenhage. Dr. Margie Fitzpatrick made the award on behalf of the family. Other family members participating in the event included Ben's son Jack and his wife Kerry, Ben's daughter Susan and her husband Kelley, Susan's daughter Becky, and Ben's nephew Ben, who gave a colloquium talk before the award ceremony.
