Teaching History of Mathematics Using Inquiry Based Learning

When one thinks about inquiry-based learning abstract algebra or other proof-based mathematics courses may be the first to come to one’s mind. What about teaching a history of mathematics course using inquiry-based learning? In this session, I will discuss my experiences teaching undergraduates at a mid-sized Midwestern university in an inquiry-based manner. I will discuss how students presented the reading to each other in creative ways, involving other class members. In addition, the details of engaging students in learning about the mathematics of the past without lecture will be discussed.
